Day 5: Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Updated: Dec 10, 2021

After Day 4's tests, we noticed we would have to find a way to correct Scooby's position after it finds a line - sometimes after a turn he would get a little dizzy and veer off course. If there were only a few turns this would not be a huge problem, but after we tested some possible board layouts with more complicated movements, Scooby would no longer be moving directly forward, and would stray into other boxes. This is a huge issue, especially for the testing day, when Scooby will have to solve a complex grid!

At first we believed there was a problem with the motors, and it honestly might've been, but we solved the dizziness by changing the speed of one of the motors so it would catc hup to the other one - it was lagging behind, and it eventually made Scooby move in diagonals.

Besides correcting Scooby's affinity to moving in diagonals, we were able to get him to move in both a smooth figure 8, and a blocked-out 8 (on the grid). This was a cool milestone - we were one step closer to the gold!
